Summary: We are Dan & Mick from That Pedal Show. We want you to sound better, play more and be inspired! We believe that when it comes to guitar tones there are no answers, only better questions. Our job is to help you find those questions and explore them. We like traditional guitars, real amps and high quality stompboxes with as much analogue signal as humanly possible.  Wet Dry Wet On A Sensible Budget | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:00:46

This podcast is audio taken from our Friday YouTube video at https://youtu.be/PVJptMv-Imk For our last show in That (Old) Pedal Shed (8 June 2018), we went nuts on a mega wet/dry/wet rig comprising all manner of unobtanium that came to a whopping £30k… or thereabouts. You can watch it here https://youtu.be/Pyyoe5R_U00We had an overwhelming response to that video, and among the chorus of ‘oh my goodness it sounds amazing’ came a cry of ‘how the bejeeesus do we do that on a more mortal budget?’Thus, Daniel and I got to work straight away in the That (New) Pedal Shed setting up a similarly inspried rig but with much more ‘normal’ stuff. Please note that we didn’t say ‘low budget’ so this isn’t about doing it as cheaply as possible. It’s about a ‘sensible’ budget using easily available, quality amps and pedals. It's still a pretty penny if you were to just go out and buy it all, but hopefully you have at least some of these things – or similar – at your disposal already!  That NEW Pedal Shed – Moving In | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:01:28

If you’re looking for useful information on guitar sounds, this is not the podcast for you! What it is is a glimpse at what it’s taken to get TPS’s new headquarters up and running. Wow. It felt like we were never going to get here… and we very nearly didn’t! It’s been two solid weeks of long days and late nights, and I’m typing this very sentence some 17 minutes before the video is scheduled to go live at midday GMT+1. Which it probably won’t because YouTube is chewing on the processing. But all that aside… We.re just about moved in to the new place. We threw the cameras and lights up an hour before filming… we finished building the shelves three hours before filming, so what you’re seeing is us sitting down and hitting record for the very first time. Day one, episode one. Don’t judge us too harshly as we still have plenty of tweaking to do!   Please enjoy the episode…   Pedals in this episode…   • TheGigRig Three2One https://www.thegigrig.com/three2one   • D’Addario Pedal Tuner UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2tIN4lD USA: http://bit.ly/2x4Bm6m Australia: http://bit.ly/2tfHqHN   • RYRA Tri-Pi Muff Fuzz UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2JUwECc USA: http://bit.ly/2LT9nOe Australia: http://bit.ly/2JCyY1n   • Keeley D&M Drive UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2oTblU1 USA:http://bit.ly/2rfACMd Australia: http://bit.ly/2pUDUAE   • ProAnalog Devices Manticore www.proanalogdevices.com   • Analog Man Bad Bob Boost www.analogman.com   • Longamp Roxanne https://en-gb.facebook.com/longamp/   • Strymon TimeLine UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2fzulGD USA: http://bit.ly/2eE84Td Australia: http://bit.ly/2pSEFKm   • Dawner Prince Boonar UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2lXzfON   • Chase Bliss Audio Gravitas Analog Tremolo UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2JOlizN USA: http://bit.ly/2qd9WZe Australia: http://bit.ly/2po5iru   • Dunlop EP-103 Echoplex UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2cQsuNc USA: http://bit.ly/2cLB8JH   • TheGigRig Humdinger https://www.thegigrig.com/humdinger     • TheGigRig G2 https://www.thegigrig.com/g2 Why do we have preferred retailer links?  Awesome Wet/Dry/Wet Tones With Echorec & Space Echo | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 41:39

We thought we’d have a bit of fun and hook up the ultimate wet/dry/wet rig courtesy of three fantastic amplifiers, a couple of all-time classic echo devices and a handful of our favourite pedals. No agenda, no real learning to be had, just some truly epic sounds and a bit of an emotional connection with the sheer tone! Massive thanks to www.soundgas.com for supplying the RE-201 and Echorec 2.  Only One Guitar, One Amp And One Pedal? | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 54:18

What if we could only choose one guitar, one amp and one pedal? Yes, we are approaching the end of an era as we get ready to turn the lights out for good in That Pedal Shed. But don’t panic. We are moving to a bigger and better space, so before we do we thought we’d make a couple of more lighthearted shows to bid farewell to ol’ place: this week and next. What, then, if we were only allowed just one guitar, one amp and one pedal: what would we choose to satisfy ear and soul among the endless options? As it turns out we reckon this could turn into a regular that runs every few months because as we explain in this episode, your current mood, tastes and most recent experiences always have a big impact on the choices.  TPS Pick'N'Mick: Mad Professor Twimble, Stone Deaf FX Syncopy & EarthQuaker Devices Pyramids | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 31:44

Welcome to Pick'N'Mix – today we have the Mad Professor Twimble, Stone Deaf FX Syncopy and Earthquaker Pyramids. No, this is not our new place – we are deep in heart of Thomann Gear University, a gathering of like-minded gear nuts from across our little planet that took place in May 2018. We had a wonderful time and met some great new friends - thanks to everyone at www.thomann.de for putting it on! Three apologies…• First, sorry we didn’t spend longer on the Pyramids – we ran out of time! You can see more here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQiK2tSlTZ4• Second, sorry the pedal cam isn’t better. It was a fast turnaround time with limited options, so we did what we could.• Third, sorry about the clipping audio in places. We tended to play a little louder than the other TGU18 attendees and we caught the engineers a little off guard from time to time…. Nevertheless we thank them MASSIVELY for their help and diligence in what was an extremely hot and fast-moving environment with a whole slew of people in and out. They did a great job and we thank them deeply! The audio itself. You’re hearing two guitar amps as the main mix (the Morgan and the Laney each through 112 cabs) plus each of those amps through a Universal Audio Ox (right) and a Two-Notes Torpedo Reload (left). The physical, mic’d 1x12 cabs are about 85 per cent of the mix. The Ox and the Reload are doing something approaching what our room mics usually do (sorta, kinda) to add a bit of spread. And yes, those are the ones that are clipping. See above.  Roland Space Echoes, Dimension D&C… And Matt Schofield! | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 45:08

In this episode we find ourselves at the Thomann Gear University 2018. It was an event held at the retail giant’s headquarters and store in Germany, where a bunch of us descended for a few days to hang out and make video. We were given the run of the store – literally anything we wanted… So Dan and I found two blokes from Boss who came armed with a couple of discontinued old gems. Of course. First we plug in the sweetest Roland RE-201 Space Echo we’ve ever seen or heard, and compare it to the current Boss RE-20. Then we move on to something absolutely unique: the Boss Dimension D and C devices, famed for their classic take on chorus. And then we bumped into Matt Schofield who had a theory about the Dimension D and Stevie Ray Vaughan… What follows is what went down, so we hope you enjoy it. Before that, a couple of apologies… First, sorry the pedal cams aren’t better. It was a fast turnaround time with limited options, so we did what we could. Second, sorry about the clipping audio in places. We tended to play a little louder than the other TGU18 attendees and we caught the engineers a little off guard from time to time….  Sing! Sing! Sing! With Dan, Mick & Mary Spender | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 20:38

Well this is a bit different! We attended Thomann Gear University during May 2018 and bumped into a lot of friends old and new. One of our dear chums is Mary Spender – find her on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/MarySpender – and among her many talents is her wonderful singing. So Dan and I decided to take a TPS-sized wrecking ball to that and ask her to sing with us! This is the audio from our YouTube video of May 22 2018. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/6jvD1SiF4SY What follows is more or less exactly as it happened, in the spirit of trying to get you to sing. Even if you’ve been telling yourself you can’t, you can. Singing is great for the soul and it’ll make your life better, especially when you do it with other people. Sure, you absolutely will feel silly at first and you might not exactly be Aretha Franklin in the pipes department, but put some time into it and you’ll be amazed what you can achieve. If nothing else, it will really help your guitar playing too. Now, importantly, this is purely designed to whet your singing whistle. We'd highly recommend hitting up a specialist site or channel if you're getting into singing for the first time – there are lots out there! So as we say, slightly off the beaten track for us, but, erm, we were in Germany. And some other things. There is much more to come from our time at TGU over coming weeks. MASSIVE thanks to the good people of Thomann who put this whole event on. And of course to Mary for being a good sport. Check out the various #TGU18 hashtags on social media and Thomann’s own YouTube channel for much more stuff. Enjoy the episode! Pedals in this episode…There are no pedals in this episode, but there are acoustic guitars and an teeny-tiny acoustic bass…• Gibson J-45 Vintage 2018• Martin D-18• Ortega Lizzy Bass. We think. Going into the Morgan, possibly. Interesting bits and go-to sections…- Intro playing and singing: 00:17- What are we doing & why? 2:00- I like that bass! 2:30- Singing gets you gigs: 3:00- How does really basic harmony work? 3:29- Gadzooks! Dan has very limited experience of Orange amps; I have a little more – Mick here – but we’re essentially starting from scratch. This is audio taken from our YouTube video of Friday 18 May 2018 that you can watch here. https://youtu.be/bYthDmw9yqI CORRECTION: Mick says Orange Music started in Charing Cross Road, London in the late 1960s.It actually began in New Compton St in 1968 – Happy 50th Anniversary to Cliff and everyone at Orange! Even if you don’t have an OR15 there are some goodly amp basics in this episode, for example the relationship between gain, master and headroom at 7:44 and delays used in the front or in the loop at 15:02. Full timings below…Apart from all that, we use a selection of common gain types and a new pedal or two to get some tones going. We hope this kind of approach will encourage you to try stuff and raise some questions that will help you with this specific amp and indeed others that might share common features. Now, we managed to avoid the 7-watt mode entirely. It wasn’t exactly intentional, although may be influenced by the fact that we tend not to use them in any amps. Which doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound good - apologies for the omission. In 7-watt mode you simply get less headroom and more power amp overdrive at lower levels. It’s still plenty loud! But we arrived, and when we arrived we found that the equally nice people at Shure had left us an MV88 i-Mic thingythang as a welcome gift. Let's see if it works.  So, we hit Bamburg with an iPhone and the mic, and this is what happened. Cheers y'all.  Guten tag!

Graham Coxon Extra Bits & An Alternative Pedalboard | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 33:45

An edit of some extra bits we recorded when Graham Coxon came to visit for the main video in March 2018. This is the audio from a video on our YouTube channel from May 15 2018.  https://youtu.be/aYN_VIbLkKw The original, full-length video is here: https://youtu.be/_ijyk89uOCI Also available as a podcast further down our playlist. One of the reasons for Graham’s visit was that he wanted Dan to put together a separate pedalboard that he could use for various creative projects: he wanted something portable but versatile; different but familiar; capable of inspiration over complication. So this episode comprises a quick flick through that board as Graham plugs in for the first time, interspersed with some Coxon gems as you would rightly expect. It’s not a full episode per sé, but loads of people have asked for some extra footage from the day. So here it is… We are massively grateful to Graham for giving us his time and sharing his insight and experience – what a privilege! Please check out www.grahamcoxon.com and sign up to his newsletter to find out what’s going on in his world.  Great Vox AC30 Tones With Dan's Pedalboard | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:00:00

Dan reflects on his recent reconnection with his vintage Vox AC30, following some gig and recording preparation with his band Tin Spirits. This is the audio from our YouTube show, 11 May 2018 that you can watch here: https://youtu.be/c1St2e263cQ Dan is using the AC30 connected to a Fryette Power Station to provide some attenuation, which helps put the amp in a sweet spot in terms of tone, dynamics and feel… but without excessive volume.Using that as the base tone, we go through his current selection of boosts, OD and fuzz to get all kinds of drive textures, throwing in some modulation and ambience for good measure. Dan is using the AC30 in its (modded) EF86 channel.Enjoy the episode!  No Speakers! Can We Go Direct & Enjoy It? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:15

Our hand is forced. Regular viewers will know that we love our valve amps. Transformers, speakers, glowing tubes… all of that stuff that has made the best guitar sounds of all time, or at least as far as we’re concerned. BUT! The hammer has come down. We have to go direct. This episode is the audio from our YouTube video of 04 May 2018: https://youtu.be/8XfLz5cLpAc We’ve finally sent our neighbours over the edge and That Pedal Shed is to be no more. We’ve been silenced. So do we lose the rest of a rare (and bloomin' expensive) filming day, or do we try something else?As it happens we have the Mooer Radar on hand – a digital, IR-based speaker simulator among other talents. Let’s hit it with our Plexi and see what we think. In addition, we have a BluGuitar AMP1 and BlueBox combination. How about we go direct to our audio interface, put on the ol’ cans and see if we can make the best of it.What unfolds is partly predictable, partly surprising, and partly positive that we might delve into this again one day. That was the surprising part. Enjoy the video – it is one of the last you’ll ever see from That Pedal Shed. Boo and indeed hoo! (But don’t worry, we have a new, bigger and better home to go to.)
