 Plugged In Acoustic 2 | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 53:56

This is the audio from our YouTube video published here:https://youtu.be/Pz7TCmNe5Zs Amplifying acoustic guitars is a problem area for literally anyone who plays live with the ol’ flattop. Dan and I both do our fair share of acoustic gigs so we thought we’d start looking at some basics, many of which we covered in Part 1. In this episode we extend our look at some floor-based devices to help enhance your plugged-in sound, alongside some more general tips, ideas and discussion around the whole subject. We chose the LR Baggs Align Series pedals because they’re new, and the T-Rex SoulMate Acoustic because it’s what Dan uses live.  Victory, Kingsley & Origin Preamp Pedals | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:20:51

This is the audio from our video posted here:   In this episode we take a look at three professional quality pedal preamps capable of Marshall ‘plexi’-type tones. That term of course means many things to many people so we don’t spend too long worrying about it… but we do spend absolutely bloomin’ ages listening to the new V4 The Sheriff pedal from Victory, our old favourite Kingsley Constable V2 and the Origin Effects Revival Drive. One key difference between a pedal preamp and a 'normal' OD pedal is the way they are designed to be used. Typically a preamp has much more output and EQ scope and is therefore able to feed straight into a power amp or FX loop return, essentially adding a whole alternative front end to your amp/board/recording setup. Most 'normal' pedals don't sound at their best used that way and perform better in conjunction with the front end of your amp. Which is great when you love your amp... but if you don't, or want something entirely different, a whole separate preamp could be the answer. Whether they actually sound like a Marshall Plexi is a moot point. Much more interesting is the depth and range of their sounds when hitting the power section of your favourite amp. Thus, we hook up the trusty Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and work our way through a bunch of guitars. This is a really, really long video – we admit that Dan and I take way too long getting to the point here, even for us. So we’re making some new rules about video length from now on. Nevertheless, if you use the interesting bits and go-to sections information below, you can get some of your life back. Maybe. Better still, go and find somebody you like and spend real human time with them. It really is better than watching YouTube. Please enjoy the episode! Pedals in this episode…• TheGigRig Three2One

 Plugged-In Acoustic 101 | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:09:58

We delve into the world of amplified acoustic guitars. This is the audio from the video published here: https://youtu.be/ZC_ZwbS2j5Q It’s a problem area for literally anyone who plays live with the ol’ flattop. Dan and I both do our fair share of acoustic gigs so we thought we’d start looking at some basics on the show.We start off by reminding you what an acoustic guitar kinda/sorta sounds like with a mic in front of it, before heading into the world of plugging in via a PA system and/or acoustic guitar amplifier. We also take a brief look at a couple of ‘pedals’, more of which in part 2. Apology time: I make THREE SCHOOLBOY ERRORS during the show (Mick here)… I call the non-cutaway Martin a 000-18E. It is in fact an OM-18E - links below.I explain that a piezo pickup is a piezo-electric transducer. And then like a total dumbass call it an electro-magnetic device. Which of course it isn’t. Piezo-electric transducers use pressure to create a current. Electro-magnetic pickups uses a magnet and a coil. Sorry - brain-fry! I call the pickup system in the Martin guitars an LR Baggs Lyric. It is in fact an LR BAGGS ANTHEM (link below). Apologies all round - brain trying to do too many things at once. Apart from all that, please enjoy the episode!  Colorsound Power Boost-Type Pedals & Hiwatt Custom 100 DR103 | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:06:08

Today’s show was one of those once-in-a-lifetime lightbulb moments. It aired on YouTube as a video: https://youtu.be/KKvFcPc8v-4 Dan had long been telling me about ‘Power Boost’ pedals... but having never sat down and plugged one in properly, I was none the wiser. A total blank spot of guitar history. We would do a show. One day.  It wasn’t until Dan did an eight-hour round-trip drive to pick up an original 1972 Hiwatt Custom 100 DR103 and a bunch of Colorsound Power Boost-inspired pedals – including an original – that the penny was able to drop. And boy did it drop, for him as much as me. These are genuinely some of the most inspiring, most moving, most thoroughly rock’n’roll sounds we’ve ever mustered from these four walls. Massive thanks to Chris at www.custompedalboards.co.uk for the loan of the pedals and of course the unbelievable Hiwatt. The morning after filming, we hit Reverb.com and bought one. Life seems unthinkable without one at this point. Please enjoy the episode… Pedals in this episode…None of our OD/boost/fuzz pedals today are available from our exclusive preferred retailers, so we’ve included URLs to the relevant companies. • TheGigRig Three2Onehttps://www.thegigrig.com/three2one • D’Addario Pedal TunerUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2tIN4lDUSA: http://bit.ly/2x4Bm6mAustralia: http://bit.ly/2tfHqHN • Analog Man Sun Face BC183www.analogman.com • Colorsound Power Boost (original). When somebody brings out an overdrive pedal that isn’t an overdrive pedal… //doesn’t// call it an amp in a box when it’s probably the best one we’ve heard to date… //and// charges a pretty penny to behold its charms, you can expect us to sit up. This is the audio from our video of 17 Aug 2018 that you can watch here: https://youtu.be/y9aZ83_RVjE So yes it’s complex.Yes it is amp like. And yes it’s an overdrive pedal for people whoo don’t like overdrive pedals. But is it the hands-down, bottom-up no-brainer purchase that we should all make? Nope. This puppy is dividing opinion good and proper. So what about us?Please enjoy the episode… Pedals in this episode… • TheGigRig Three2Onehttps://www.thegigrig.com/three2one • D’Addario Pedal TunerUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2tIN4lDUSA: http://bit.ly/2x4Bm6mAustralia: http://bit.ly/2tfHqHN • Analog Man Sun Face NKT Red Dotwww.analogman.com • Keeley D&M DriveUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2oTblU1USA:http://bit.ly/2rfACMdAustralia: http://bit.ly/2pUDUAE • Origin Effects Revival Drive CustomUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2w7XdLrUSA: http://bit.ly/2Mi9nvOAustralia: http://bit.ly/2MHlqz4 • JHS Panther Cub V2 Analog DelayUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2AFrfLWUSA: http://bit.ly/2KnRsOHAustralia: http://bit.ly/2MrPdPt • TheGigRig G2https://www.thegigrig.com/g2 Why do we have preferred retailer links?  Pick'N'Mix: Phonkify, Red Velvet Fuzz, Nigel, Delay Workstation | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 31:57

This is Dan’N’Mick’s Pick’N’Mix from Tuesday 10 July 2018. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/GGZ-Np7V4fk  We start funky with the Tsakalis Audio Works Phonkify – a super versatile envelope filter / octave with nasty and smooth modes. It also has an input for an expression pedal, but we managed to miss that. It would control the frequency range of the of the envelope, giving you wah-like control. Y'know, if you actually plugged it in. The Chase Tone ’68 Red Velvet Fuzz is a unique BC183 silicon fuzz inspired by that magic era. Extra controls up top mean it’s way more versatile than a traditional fuzz face.Lounsberry pedals is a new name to us, so we check out the Nigel – a harmonic slab of goodly rock overdrive for which Dan goes all gooey. And finally, how it’s taken us so long to get the Keeley Delay Workstation on the show is anyone’s guess. A dual pedal with 8 different delays and reverbs combinable in a whole bunch of useful ways. A no-brainer one-stop delay and reverb for minimalists who nevertheless want a bit of versatility. Let’s plug in!Enjoy the video… Pedals in this video • TheGigRig Three2Onehttps://www.thegigrig.com/three2one • D’Addario Pedal TunerUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2tIN4lDUSA: http://bit.ly/2x4Bm6mAustralia: http://bit.ly/2tfHqHN • Tsakalis AudioWorks Phonkifyhttps://tsakalisaudioworks.com/product/phonkify/ • Chase Tone ’68 Red Velvet Fuzzhttps://chasetone.com/chase-tone-68-red-velvet-fuzz/ • Lounsberry NigelUSA: http://bit.ly/2L3Nhfv • Keeley Delay WorkstationUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2L0FifLUSA: http://bit.ly/2JerOvmAustralia: http://bit.ly/2JaEkMd • The GigRig G2https://www.thegigrig.com/g2 * Why do we have preferred retailer links?  Six Cool New(Ish) Overdrives | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:06:56

Oh no! Not //more// overdrive pedals surely?! You better believe it – it can be a lifetime’s work to find just the right one and boy are we on that journey. So for no other reason than we felt like it, we assembled six cool new (ish) things and took a swing at them.   This is the audio from our YouTube video of July 6 2018.   In an unusual departure from the norm, what follows is some extra info that we either skirted over or didn’t know in the video. It’s a double-edged sword, diving too deeply into a company’s marketing materials before you plug in and play. Dan and I usually prefer the open-minded ‘what do we actually hear?’ approach, which can and does lead to some reactions that don’t always chime with the official hymnsheet. If we get stuff wrong, we fess up and put it right in a later video. With that in mind…   The Terry White Rabbit Deluxe //really// deserves more attention from us. For whatever reason we were struggling to get it to sit with the amps today in terms of level and dynamic. That underlines its position as a ‘preamp / line driver’ kind of thing, similar to what you might expect from the JHS Colour Box and the like. It will reappear, almost certainly when we’re recording actual real music.   The Keeley Aria Compressor Drive also has the TRS jacks function like the D&M Drive to enable you to place each effect in different loops on your true bypass loop switcher. Cool!   The Free The Tone pedals are from FTT’s Integrated Series and celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Free The Tone. It’s worth a read of the FTT website where they explain how the pedal casing and materials have been chosen with tone in mind. Hence the heavyness that we spoke about, perhaps! Yuki and team are super serious about this stuff – we didn’t mean to be flippant about it. But hey, this is TPS after all. They also features FTT’s latest evolution of the HTS Circuit, which is a unique take on a buffer circuit. Even Matt Schofield likes it, and that’s about as high an endorsement as you’ll find!   Greuter is definitely from Switzerland, not Austria!  Settling In To The New Place: Mics, Dispersion & A Bit Of Jamming | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 52:26

Forgive us, for this week it’s a bit more millenial-approved, soshal-meedja-addicted naval-gazing self-indulgence with That New Pedal Shed. Or This Pedal Shed, Schwangri-La… or whatever it’s going to be called. But here’s how this goes. We do all this off camera, tell you fine people about it, and then you ask for a video explaining what we did. So rather than go all through that, we’ll just do it here vlog-stylee, like Zoella or some other modern YouTuber would. But don’t worry, we’re not going to tell you how to get over the shame of wearing the same dress as your ex-BFF to the hella-good-hair guy’s party. Only she can help you with that. We say take a mid-’50s D-18 and do a wicked Taylor Swift cover, dress or no dress girlfriend. //this is getting scary now, stop.//Okay, sit back and enjoy Dan and I setting up some of our current favourite stuff to see what we can hear in the new room, after one of us was feeling a bit sad that it sounded a bit, um, sad. We have some new microphones – Neumann TLM102 – and some bits of wood that call themselves ‘sound dispersion panels’. And by golly they work! Much less sadness now.Oh, and we jam too.
