Devin Townsend Blows Our Tiny Minds

 Mick's Board 2018 | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 58:48

This is the audio from the YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/53R5o7qQEVw   Mick says: “Dan made my first proper, grown-up’s, flightcased G2 board back in March 2017 – you can watch that video here: https://youtu.be/-wpAnCeHPQs“That board has served me exceptionally well, but it’s time for an upgrade! I recently acquired a Schmidt Array SA525 pedalboard – lighter and better dimensions for what I need – so what better excuse to have a switch-up?“This video documents the various stages of the first build. If you want to see more on the specifics of making cables and connecting power, please check out some of other pedalboard build videos, including the one linked above.“As always, pedals will come in and out so this isn’t set in stone, but the awesome thing about board like this when you have the power and audio in place is that it’s a super simple job to switch things out.” Signal Path: The pedals run in the order they appear in the loops of G2. Wet/dry? Loop 6 on G2 is connected to a Humdinger by TheGigRig. That goes to the dry amp (in this case the Victory V40 Deluxe). That means everything before Loop 6 goes to both amps. Everything after Loop 6 (DC-2, delays, tremolo and Mini Vent II) goes to the wet amp only (the Two-Rock). Why don’t I use the volume insert for the dry amp send? You need to have post gain turned on in order to do that, and I’m super sensitive to the sound of extra buffers. Please enjoy the episode!  9 Awesome Fuzz Pedals | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 31:25

This is the audio from our video https://youtu.be/Bk8TcxrlLwM This is Dan’N’Mick’s Pick’N’Mix where we feature bunch of pedals that are new (to us anyway). Our agenda is purely to plug them in, see what cool sounds and features we find, and combine them in whatever way inspires. That’s it! This one is a slight step from the norm – we’re currently inundated with fuzz pedals, so here are NINE in one hit! A note on the stereo field changes/anomalies in this video. Mick's thoughts... "You'll hear differences in the stereo field as we switch pedals on and off during this video. After doing the audio and listening back, I think it's down to three possible things… 1) We're using two amps and they are panned a little bit left and right. The Supro (panned relatively left) has far great headroom than the Victory (panned relatively right). So when we step on a pedal that's set with a lot of volume and less fuzz, the Supro gets a lot louder, where the Victory overdrives more and doesn't get as loud (much less headroom0. 2) The volume increases with the cleaner pedals are picked up more via the room mics - you hear more room mic as the amps get louder and they are configured in a stereo mid-side configuation. 3) Less obvious but still possible, it might be a phasing issue with different gain stages/modes in pedals. Cheers!"  Andy Martin Visits TPS! | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:11:38

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/KboeI9DOdPY It is our honour and great pleasure to welcome the venerable Andy Martin to the show! Andy was doing online pedal demos for ProGuitarShop.com way back when this was all metaphorical fields. Some 2,000 videos, in fact! When PGS got acquired by online trading site Reverb.com, Andy found he had a new employer and a bunch of new stuff to do.We explore that a tiny bit, but of course focus on the more important stuff: what’s on his current pedalboard and what does it sound like? We also talk a little bit about Andy’s technique, his approach to demoing and plenty more besides. Andy Martin is one of the good guys – a true talent, a gentleman and of course an absolute fount of useful playing and tone knowledge. We are, quite literally, not worthy. But we did it anyway.  Bass Guitar FX Board & Chat With Dishan Abrahams | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:00:36

This is the audio from our YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/KVtekMLaDOI Our first bass video! In this video we welcome our great friend and utterly monster bass player, Dishan Abrahams. Dishan has a glittering list of credits including Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis and many, many more. His current main gig is with UK singer/songwriter, Jess Glynne. Before filming, Dan had put together Dishan’s latest board, so we take the opportunity to go through it while talking more generally about the bass discipline and mindset. You’ll also notice the equally wonderful Dougie Mussard on drums to provide a bit of context for the bassing, not to mention un petit peu de jammage as well. Dougie and Dan have been playing together since before the dawn of time, so bless ’im he had no choice but to be the TPS Band drummer. Hooray! We spectacularly managed to not have a bass amp handy, so we improvised with a JHS Colour Box and a powered PA cab for the room. The DI is treated to an Ampeg SVT and 8x10 Plugin via our Universal Audio Apollo 8P. The drums are mic’d in the Glyn Johns fashion, and the guitar amps are mic’d as usual, so there’s spill everywhere on the jams. Room baby, room. And yes, the bass is high in the band mixes. It’s a bass video!
