This is VCQ - here's the video version. https://youtu.be/ryCeO3HAAEw   This segment is where we answer your questions and comments – hopefully every Monday. The main focus of the Q&A will be the main show that went out on the preceding Friday, but we'll answer other stuff too. Here's the link to the main show being discussed – it was Great Uni-Vibe Sounds, Signal Chain Considerations & Associated Tangents. https://youtu.be/Te97X_WBRyQ Yeah, we had some background noise on this one… even using lavalier mics and with Adobe’s noise reduction plugin. If anyone knows how the hell broadcasters deal with this, I’m all ears. Cheers! Mick We hope you enjoy this video. Please subscribe to our channel.  Uni-Vibe Sounds & Questions | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:02:10

This is the audio from our YouTube video of 11 Jan 2019. https://youtu.be/Te97X_WBRyQ   In this episode Dan and I ask and answer some common questions about classic Vibe style pedals. The original Uni-Vibe pedal first appeared in 1968, introduced by Japanese company Shin-ei and released in the US by Univox, erm, according to Wikipedia. The name Uni-Vibe is now a trademark of Dunlop Manufacturing Inc. The Uni-Vibe sound was immortalised into rock history by Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower among others and has since become a staple of many pedalboards. It’s a four-stage phaser that uses light dependent resistors around a bulb to creates a unique modulation effect that's kinda part phaser, kinda part chorus and definitely all magic.Join us as we dial in a bunch of sounds and mess with settings and pedalboard position to help you on you quest for the perfect vibe tone.  Using Pedals & Loops With Gainy Amps – That Pedal Show | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:01:20

This is the audio from our YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/8LW_v-U5QV0 In this episode we meander through what seems to be a huge point of discussion with a lot of people: using pedals with overdriven amps. As regular viewers will know, Dan and I tend to use cleaner / higher headroom amps for the basis on which to stack different gain sounds from pedals. However, lots of people really like the sound of an overdriven amp… which is where the ‘problems’ really start when adding pedals. We run through comparisons of using common gain pedal types into contrasting amps: one clean/high headroom and one heavily overdriven to try to shed some light on the issues you may be having. And of course the discussion would not be complete without discussing delay and reverb into either the front of the amp, or the loop. As always, there really are no answers, just better questions, and what we hope to arm you with here is simply a better understanding of the various gain stacking relationships you will encounter when using pedals with amps. If you’re at any point confused which amp you’re hearing: Amp 1 lit on G2 means it’s the Hiwatt. Amp 2 lit means it’s the Victory. Enjoy!  10 Great Ways To Use Your Delay Pedals | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 52:10

This is the audio from our YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/Ol1Z6OF6N-U We get asked lots of questions about delay pedals and how to use them creatively, so in this video we show you 10 cool things you can do with… yep… delay pedals. It’s important to note that not all delay pedals will do all of these things. For example, Thing 5 – Changing The Sound Of Repeats –requires a pedal that has the ability to do that. Many modern multifunction / programmable delays from the likes of Strymon, Boss and so on have these features, as of course do the examples we use in the video. If nothing else, it might serve as a guide to what you might actually need or not need when choosing a new delay pedal because heaven knows that are so many on the market! We do not cover stereo delays in this video - it’s a much less common application for most people and requires a deeper dive at some point. Anyhoo, enough yakkin’ from me Mick here – let’s get on with the show.  Worst Pedal Platform Amps? | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 48:14

This is the audio from our YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/lS10FEevBbI Okay, for everyone I send here from the comments section, this explanation is for you…Dan and I DID NOT select these amps as ‘the worst pedal platforms’. You did. And here's how that went down…A few weeks back we were asked a question about ‘bad pedal platform amps.’ We said – as we always do – that there really are no bad ones, it’s more a question of what you want to achieve and whether your amp choice is appropriate for you, or indeed not. We carried on to say that we thought we could make pretty much any amp sound good with pedals and asked the audience to suggest the worst pedal platform amps, in their opinion. Among the many, many suggestions the absolute stand-out, clear ‘winner’ was – by a country light year – the Peavey 6505. We were surprised! Somewhere in the far distance was the Roland JC120. However, given that isn’t a real game and we can change the rules however we liked, we chose the JC40 instead. It’s more common, more affordable and I really wanted Dan to hear one. So, we plug in, try some pedals and hopefully offer some useful suggestions along the way. As we find out… they both cope admirably with pedals! Also: What’s that new white PRS?Mick says: The Silver Sky has gone to pastures new and PRS Guitars Europe kindly offered to loan us something else to use on the show. I said what we needed was a relatively simple, mahogany body guitar with humbuckers, as we don’t currently have such a beast. Welcome the S2 Singlecut Standard – link below.” Please enjoy the episode… Pedals in this episode… TheGigRig Three2Onehttps://www.thegigrig.com/three2one Sonic Research ST-300 Turbo Tuner MiniUSA: http://bit.ly/2AYjob5Australia: http://bit.ly/2mR1s8c • Keeley D&M DriveUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2oTblU1USA:http://bit.ly/2rfACMdAustralia: http://bit.ly/2pUDUAE • Kingsley Page Tube Boost V2http://kingsleyamplifiers.com/products/pedals/7/ • Keeley Filaments High Gain DistortionUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2PTsOrQUSA: http://bit.ly/2ihcnudAustralia: http://bit.ly/2A2HmjZ • Boss CE-2w ChorusUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2fkq9tvUSA: http://bit.ly/2pDHIXoAustralia: http://bit.ly/2iqp2rs • Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe CB-3UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2RVldeSAustralia: http://bit.ly/2Ovelqa • Walrus Audio Monument TremoloUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2SdmoFYUSA: http://bit.ly/2A8qIzfAustralia: http://bit.ly/2PQxT4j • Neunaber Immerse ReverbUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2QFbjkgUSA: http://bit.ly/2Ey6YIpAustralia: http://bit.ly/2Gzpdjn TheGigRig G2https://www.thegigrig.com/g2 * Why do we have preferred retailer links?  Marshall Bluesbreaker Style Pedals | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:09:18

This is the audio from our YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/a6bDuYkuiIs In this episode we revisit the venerable Marshall Blues Breaker overdrive pedal of the early 1990s. This one was very kindly loaned to us by our good friend Chris Buck (honk). Thank you Chris! The pedal was designed to sound somewhat like the even more venerable Marshall 1962 model 2x12 combo, used most famously by Eric Clapton on the 1966 album ’Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton’… by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. Needless to say, that’s where the amp picked up its new name. Phew. That’s a lot of Blues Breakers and Bluesbreakers, but I think it’s right. Mick here.We start by listening to the original, then stomp through a bunch of modern pedals that take the Blues Breaker pedal, combo, or the head version JTM45 – as their principle inspiration. Couple of things to note. First, there’s hefty low end in this mix. Maybe it was the bigger cabs. If it’s too much for you, just notch down your graphic EQ a few dB from about 120Hz down. My mixing headphones (Beyer DT880 Pro) are very balanced... a lot of modern 'listening' headphones accentuate bass and I should remember to check that. Apols. Second, we were remiss in not getting a modern Marshall BB-2 Blues Breaker pedal. Maybe we can revisit that at some point soon. Yes, that is a real 1965 JTM45 at the end. It’s on next week’s show… Meantime, please enjoy the episode… Pedals in this episode… • TheGigRig Three2Onehttps://www.thegigrig.com/three2one • D’Addario Pedal TunerUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2tIN4lDUSA: http://bit.ly/2x4Bm6mAustralia: http://bit.ly/2tfHqHN • Original Marshall Blues BreakerNo longer made • JHS Morning Glory V4UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2REVhDEUSA: http://bit.ly/2rn6E7BAustralia: http://bit.ly/2REPZb0 • Keeley 1962xUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2Qdu12lUSA: http://bit.ly/2BUgIehAustralia: http://bit.ly/2SyT2ls • Z Vex Box Of RockAustralia: http://bit.ly/2JbC5JS • Snouse Electric Company Black Box 2https://www.snouse.com/index.html • Analog Man King Of Tonehttp://www.analogman.com/kingtone.htm • Wampler PantheonUK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2POI0eUUSA: http://bit.ly/2R9c8OKAustralia: http://bit.ly/2zwyfFn • Dunlop EP-103 Echoplex UK & Europe: http://bit.ly/2cQsuNcUSA: http://bit.ly/2cLB8JH • TheGigRig G2https://www.thegigrig.com/g2 Interesting bits and go-to sections…- Intro playing: 0:00- Grumpy? 1:00- What are we doing today? 1:25- Bluesbreaker.  15W Amp With 112, 212 & 412 Cabs | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 59:39

This is the audio from our YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/XBOjIVs4b7o In this episode we take a popular ’small’ guitar amp – Fender Bassbreaker 15 1x12 combo (Celestion V-Type speaker), and put it through a couple of bigger extension cabinets, to see what we hear and feel. The cabs are a Victory V212VC 2x12 with two Celestion G12M Creambacks… and a Marshall 1960A 4x12 with four Celestion G12M Greenbacks. The settings for the Bassbreaker 15 amp throughout are: Lowest gain modeGain 10 o’clockBass 11 o’clockMiddle 11 o’clockTreble 1 o’clockMaster 3 o’clockReverb varies We also use a selection of OD pedals along the way to see what they bring to the party. Towards the end, we go super low on the volume with a Z Vex Nano Head Tube Amp through the 4x12 and discuss how it sounds and feels. Questions that will come up from people annoyed this isn’t a lab style A/B comparison… Q: Why didn’t you use the same speaker types?A: We don’t have that many of the same type, and the differences between them are just as interesting, we think. Q: The amp is running at different impedances: surely that makes a big difference?A: Yes it will. But... 412s and 212s are often different impedances from your amp's internal speaker. Q: Two cabs are open back, one is closed – does that make a difference?A: Certainly. And it will vary significantly depending on the size, shape and decoration of the room in which you’re playing. Q: Why do this at all – a pointless and arbitrary comparison?A: Maybe, but, ultimately there are no answers, only better questions and the point of all TPS videos is to arm you with some of the latter to spark some inspiration for your own tonal journey. Mick’s post-ep thoughts…“Hmm. What we're hearing and feeling in the room was quite different from what the mics captured. We were both ‘struggling’ with the quietness and relative lack of headroom from the Bassbreaker, and of course the Z Vex Nanohead was super quiet, as we discuss. Yet when recorded, everything sounds big and full and fat – really good in fact! “It underlines the frustrating old truth. As careful as we are with recording and mixing, YouTube videos really don't deliver the physical experience of actually being in the room. So… please get out there and try things, people – the tone will be familiar, but the actual physical experience of it may be very different!
