All About the Eucharist | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:38

If you grew up in the faith but never really understood most of it – this episode is for you. If you went to mass because thats what your family did, got first Holy Communion because your mom put you in Sunday school (CF/CCD) classes, and even got confirmed to “graduate” from those CF/CCD classes (like me!!) then this episode is definitely for you! In this episode I’m going to be diving into some basic info on the Eucharist – the Catholic form of communion. What we believe, why we believe it, what makes it so special, and some other questions that come along with all of the above! WHAT CATHOLIC’S BELIEVE ABOUT THE EUCHARIST Catholics believe that bread and wine is actually transformed into the physical body and blood of Jesus. His body, blood, soul and divinity. No, we’re not killing Jesus all over again. That was a one-and-done deal. It was all foreshadowed in the Old Testament with the Passover. WHY WE BELIEVE THE EUCHARIST IS THE TRUE PRESENCE OF CHRIST Well, because the Old Testament foreshadowed it and Jesus himself told us it was! See Exodus 12  Now, back to Jesus.Understanding Catholic Eucharist and Communion See also Yeshua and the Passover Instructions Even more evidence is in Luke chapter 24 – when no one recognized Jesus fully after his resurrection until they broke bread that he had blessed and ATE it. OK, SO HOW DO WE KNOW ALL OF THIS IS FOR REAL? Because Jesus told us himself! Check out John chapter 6! All of it, soak it in and love on it! Now He meant this both literally and figuratively. Figuratively because He is the filler for all of our voids and shortcomings but literally… well, he explains the whole eating him part next. In John chapter 6 is where Jesus tells us literally what he means by being the bread of life. Sounds pretty darn clear to me what He was saying and what he meant with his words! SO, THIS IS WHAT MAKES CATHOLIC EUCHARIST AND COMMUNION SO SPECIAL! This is why people go to adoration. This is why women cover their heads with veils or other head coverings in the presence of Christ. This is why we kneel during the consecration times of the mass (when the priest is calling on Jesus to transform that measly bread and wine into JESUS!). This is why we genuflect (literal meaning: bend at the knee) when we enter the sanctuary and when we pass by the tabernacle. This is why we say “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Matthew 8:8 This is also why people who have not yet received their First Holy Communion in the Catholic Church should not receive the Eucharist. The episode has the 3 reasons why people who haven’t had their first holy communion yet shouldn’t receive. And finally this is why it is extremely important for those of us receiving the sacrament to be free of all mortal sins. The big ones – because the big ones separate us from the grace of God by us putting up a wall, ourselves between us and God. STILL DON’T BELIEVE ME? CHECK OUT SOME EUCHARISTIC MIRACLES! Eucharistic miracles are when the body and blood of Christ in the eucharist, which is under the form of bread and wine actually bleeds, has actually been scientifically proven to have human flesh cells. And not just any human flesh cells – cardiac (heart) cells. And those cells have been proven to have been under extreme levels of stress found in hormone remnants in the cells.  Maybe You Need A "No" Year | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 06:47

Picking a word for the year can be great, so can making goals. But I have a really interesting idea for you, something I did in 2018. What if... you made an anti-resolution... to take absolutely nothing new on. These things you're saying no to are not BAD they're just not for you right now. And that's ok!   In the upcoming episode 22 (not 19! the schedule changed!) we'll be chatting about how to practically tackle your time management as a mom/woman.  When Church Doesn't Give You A Warm Fuzzy Feeling | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:04

On this episode we're chatting to anyone who has ever felt like the Catholic Church is just REALLY missing out on something because it might not give you that *feeling* that a praise band, exciting pastor, and flourishing ministry filled church might. This took me a LONG while to come to realize about the Church and why she is so set in her ways. I mean, come on - times change... right?? I talk a bit about my faith background and journey and I hope it touches someones heart in the right spot. I can't tell you how many people I know have left the Church for another denomination or community. I get it. The Church and some parishes can *seem* (I'm using jazz hands) like this unwelcoming, judgmental, rigid, controversy ridden, non frilly place. I get why people would want to encounter Jesus in a music filled, arms raised, vibrant pastor giving these amazingly touching and encouraging preaching. You *feel* something when you go to these services that you didn't think you felt when you went to mass. So, I'm going to give you a run down on WHY you should be coming back into God's church. Basically Catholic 101. Here we go: #1: The whole purpose of salvation is for God to make us his family. #2: In order to enter into a covenant bond there has to be an agreement. #3: Jesus becomes that ultimate sacrifice to God, from God, for us, back to him to create that bridge between us and God and to eternally make us family. #4: We screw up this bond, still, constantly. #5 You've got to understand what Catholics believe about communion. 2 Things - 1 that it ACTUALLY is the body and blood of Jesus and 2 to take communion in the Catholic Church means that you are IN communion - in agreement with everything the church teaches. This is a hard one for most people (me included!). #6 Because of what we believe about the Eucharist and communion - your sins need to be forgiven before you partake. #7 Jesus himself created the church. #8 Jesus himself gave power to someone to act in his person until he returns. #9 That power he gave Peter and the disciples to shepherd and forgive sin was real. #10 The reason why you belong to the Catholic (by the way, catholic means "universal" in Greek) church is because God wants you to be in his heavenly family for EVER. So, I've got some great books for you to read if you're interested in learning more about why you've gotta get your booty to mass. I'm a firm believer that we've got to re-catechize ourselves. Learn more about our faith because that makes it real, tangible, and that makes us want to go running towards the church instead of from it. My first recommendation is "A Biblical Walk Through the Mass" by Dr. Edward Sri "Reasons to Believe" by Dr Scott Hahn "A Father who keeps his promises" by Dr Scott Hahn and "The Lambs Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth" Honestly, this video (below) popped up in my Facebook feed a couple of years ago and this is what turned me on to Dr Hahn's writing and speeches. He's an amazing speaker, a former protestant minister and now Catholic theology professor and author. He's got some good, easy reading but great factual theology for anyone wanting to understand the Church, Jesus, and their teachings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67WmIGLPvEM&t=3914s Check out my other episodes here!   If you liked this episode please give us a review so other mama's can find our content!   Don't forget to hook up with me and some other mamas! Welcome to the first bonus episode! To day we're talking about what we're celebrating today at church...January 6th, 2019 Catholics always say "keep the tree up until Epiphany", but why?? Well, I didn't know so I went searching for an answer and here it is! The Epiphany is the Manifestation of Christ to the gentiles. (Matthew 2:1-12) (Gentile is a non Jewish person.) Here are some awesome talks/audio/explanations on what the Epiphany is and all the things you need to know!  When there isn't enough time in the day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 08:51

I catch myself trying to do *all the things* a LOT and it's taking me getting a super full plate and spilling the beans in EVERY aspect of life for me to realize what God is really just trying to beat me over the head to tell me... “You are not called to do all the things… you are called to do the things you have prayed about and know I called you to do”. For me... 1. Live my faith and spread Jesus’s love and hope to others. 2. Be a faithful, loving wife and mother. 3. Be a homemaker. That is all. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with life. If you flop into your bed at night just completely burnt out (like I’ve let myself often, way too often) then you need to step back and really remember what your priorities are. All of ours are different. NOT that we want to do. What HE has called us to. If you’re feeling like you don’t have enough hours in the day or like you’re failing at your normal, everyday tasks… then it’s highly likely you’re trying to get things done that God is saying “that’s not supposed to be taking up your time.” What are some things you’re feeling like you’ve put on your plate that shouldn’t be there? Glorify God, try to rock being a wife, mom, and homemaker… that is ALL YALLLLLLL! ????. Tell me your roles you’re supposed to make time for and some crap you gotta put aside so you can rock the roles you’re CALLED to fill. Comment below, Now, the practical part - when you feel like you've got no time for anything to get done, you gotta reevaluate your schedule and your life. In Episode 19 (won't be live until 1/30/2019, FYI) I am going to talk about how exactly you can schedule and work this joy into your life and give you tools to be able to time block and take a birds eye view of your schedule. I really challenge you to sit down and write that personal priority list from last episode. I've created a free workbookto help ya do just that. It's a great reminder to keep yourself aligned in your priorities. And it comes with a super cute free printable too! You can head over to my blogwww.holyhotmessmom.com/prioritiesto get your free printable or sign up below to get it in your email.   I hope this reached you if you needed to hear it!  Defining Priorities | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:26

I've talked before on my blog about making a life priorities list or a family mission statement and this is a handy dandy thing we ALL need in our lives. What better time to set our goals and missions than in the New Year? (Or really, whenever. Every day can be your "New Year" if you choose to start something new! Go for it!) Once you define the things that are truly the most important to you, you can use that to measure all new decisions against. All of them. It cuts the decision fatigue in a big way. It's a measuring stick for life decisions and it can be a huge sanity saver! Not to mention it will keep you on track for goals and ... just life in general! In this episode we're going to walk through defining your life priorities. To help you out, I created a free printable you can grab here. My defined priorities are #1 God and my relationship with Him, #2 My Husband and my relationship with him, #3 My kids and loving and raising them in a Catholic home (this includes homeschooling for me), #4 Health (modeling a healthy active lifestyle for my kids as well as taking care of myself so I can better serve God's needs), #5 Finances, and #6 the Ministry of HolyHotMessMom.com I really challenge you to sit down and write that personal priority list as well as a family priority list. I've created a free workbook to help ya do just that. It's a great reminder to keep yourself aligned in your priorities. And it comes with a super cute free printable too! You can head over to my blog www.holyhotmessmom.com/priorities to get your free printable I hope this reached you if you needed to hear it!  When the Mom Days Are Hard | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 07:18

If you want to check out the latest episode's show notes, head to my blog.   This episode is just me, talking to myself (and you!) to give you some encouragement and motivation for when the mom days can be hard.  Those days when you feel like there is no way you can keep handling whatever you're handling. Like you don't know what to do, how to react... I hope this episode can find even just one mama in the trenches, struggling today and will encourage her that she is equipped, within herself, to be the amazing mama to these kids because she was made for this.   A few times I miss spoke.   I said when YOU were formed in YOUR womb. I meant "when YOU were formed in your mom's womb", I know how babies are made. But sleep deprivation and recording podcasts at the YMCA are a b****. Secondly, I said "that doesn't mean you should confess and admit your shortcomings" I meant "that doesn't mean you SHOULDN'T confess..." I'm a hot mess, I'm aware!   I hope this reached you if you needed to hear it!   Don't forget to hook up with me and some other mamas!  Meal Planning for Money, Time and Sanity Saving | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:51

In this episode we're chatting about meal planning. Some things that have worked for our family and some tools that might be able to help you save time, money, sanity, reduce your decision fatigue and never get caught with the 4p, "oh crap what am I going to make for dinner" bug. We chat about what has worked for us regarding breakfast lunch and dinners but most importantly, a tool I stumbled upon 2.5 years ago that has helped me so much in the kitchen and meal planning aspect of my homemaking! Plan to Eat, a meal planning website!$39/year ($3.25/month)**50% off sale November 26-Dec 2nd, 2018 (I think they do this sale every week after Black Friday, FYI) which makes it only $19/year (1.60 a month) Simple Menu Planning Keep it simple - follow a themed template each week. For example, we use this as a genreral plan for our week: Mondays - Italian, Tuesdays - Mexican, Wednesdays Leftovers, Thursdays Crock Pot Meal, Friday's Leftovers, Saturdays Homemade Pizza & Movie Night, Sunday - Meal Prep and Grilling. Plan to Eat does all of the dirty work behind meal planning, recipe storage and creating shopping lists. Recipe Mode Input recipes either by link or you can manually add your own. This means you can go to Pinterest, get the link on a blog or website, and import it right away - pictures and all into a recipe card in your account. It saves forever. Menu Planning ModeDrag and drop your recipes into a monthly or weekly planning calendar. Plan notes like leftovers or go out to eat or date night. Print and keep handy in your planner or on the fridge. Shopping ModeClick over to the shopping list and this website will auto populate your shopping list and separate everything by store category. You can even add "staples" to your list like toilet paper, diapers, formula, shampoo and it will show up every time you create a shopping list. You can go one step further and designate which stores you buy certain items from. For us, all meat generally comes from Sam's Club - so when I click "shop" my grocery list will come up as a Normal Store (Walmart, Kroger, etc) and Sam's Club. I then either walk around with my lap top or print the pages out and walk around the kitchen marking off everything we already have. Shop list says I need 16 chicken breasts but I already have 8 in the freezer, so I just mark that down to only needing 8. Spices, condiments, etc. Then I just print the list out and give it to the hubby to go get OR order everything online and pick it up. Seriously a lifesaver. You can copy entire months worth of recipes. Or a week. You can schedule everything from dinners to lunches, breakfasts and snacks. I will say, there is a little learning curve - mostly because websites, blogs and recipes will not always have their ingredients typed the same way. If you put boneless chicken breast in one recipe and chicken breast in another they'll show up under "meats" on your shopping list as 2 different items. There is an easy fix, you can alter whichever one you don't like and the software will prompt you to see if you want to make the change in your shopping list AND your every recipe this item is in.   Don't forget to hook up with me and some other mamas!  Why Does God Let Things Happen? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:49

We're talking a little *faith-y* on the podcast today. Have you ever felt like God, who should be all knowing and all awesome and good, lets just awful things happen. And why, if He is so awesome, does he let awful things happen? Why is He punishing us? Here is the link to the Ascension Presents Chosen Confirmation Video on Suffering I reference in the podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMCPW53-cGw Got a little truth bomb, even though it may feel like it... God does not let bad things happen - bad things happen as a result of God giving us free will. He had to give us free will in order to get us to love him fully. We can't truly love out of being forced. Love has to be out of complete, free choice. He gave us free will and unfortunately, that means some people will make bad choices. God isn't punishing us, all things *bad* that happen are a result of someones free will choices.
