Humans are obviously not perfect; everyone will have their flaws and weaknesses. It is only when these imperfections lead to suffering that there is a real cause for concern. Most people will have many minor character defects, and a few major ones. It will be these major flaws that will cause them the most problems in life.
The tendency to feel grateful is a mental attitude that can be developed. It is particularly important that people recovering from an addiction try to cultivate this positive outlook, because it can help to ensure their success in the future.
Bob D. Open Talk Part 4
We live in a world riddled with envy. To a greater or less degree, everybody is infected with it. From this defect we must surely get a warped yet definite satisfaction. Else why would we consume such great amounts of time wishing for what we have not, rather than working for it, or angrily looking for attributes we shall never have, instead of adjusting to the fact, and accepting it?

Acceptance is one of the most important tools in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. There are many things that are out of your control, but if you can accept that everything is the way it’s supposed to be at all times, you can truly attain inner peace. This is often easier said than done.
This is an Open Talk by Bob D. This is Part 2
We admitted we couldn't lick alcohol with our own remaining resources, and so we accepted the further fact that dependence upon a Higher Power (if only our A.A. group) could do this impossible job. The moment we were able to accept these facts fully, our release from the alcohol compulsion had begun.

When people give up abusing alcohol it does not mean that their trials in life are over. They are still going to have to deal with the ups and downs of life. The only difference will be that they won’t be making things worse through substance abuse. One of the things that people in recovery are almost certain to face is fear. Those who are emotionally sober are no longer interested in hiding from fear. Their focus is on learning to manage it effectively.

Despite the fact that this chronic disease affects people of both genders, every race, different age groups, employment sectors, ethnic groups, religious affiliations and more, there’s still a stigma associated with addiction. Many addicts wonder whether it’s okay to share with employers their need for treatment or share that they have undergone a treatment program in the past.
Those individuals who escape an addiction can expect to experience plenty more success in their life going forward. This is not to say that riches will fall from the sky, but being sober means that people are now able to do the things they need to achieve their ambitions.
