Lydia Brubaker and Elliot Sterenfeld from Creative Works of Lancaster's summer theater performance of Room Service joins us for a conversation about the performances. This is the 2nd annual Works in the Park production and it will be held on August 9-11 at Musser Park in downtown Lancaster, PA. The shows start at 7pm and are free and open to the public. Concessions will be available at the shows, but you're welcome to bring a picnic and encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Judy Smith and Rich Low from the Long’s Park Amphitheater Foundation join me for a conversation about the amphitheater and their legendary summer concert series. Judy is the Executive Director and Rich is serving his second term as the foundation's Music Director. Each summer, the foundation brings thirteen free concerts to Lancaster on Sunday evenings for thousands and thousands of fans. 2012 marks the 50th anniversary for both the amphitheater and the music series, and to celebrate the foundation is sponsoring a fundraising campaign called Put a Candle on the Cake. The Stray Birds are Maya DeVitry, Oliver Craven and Charlie Muench. This Lancaster-based folk trio will be releasing their second CD and first full-length album The Stray Birds on July 21 at a special intimate CD release concert at The Community Room on Prince. If you haven't purchased a ticket to that show you're out of luck. It sold out within days of the original announcement. But, you can pre-order the new album at their website now, or pick up a copy after the release on Saturday. UPDATE: The Stray Birds is available now here. It's been well over a year since I talked with Oliver about his music. At that time, this band was only a part-time collaboration between friends. Now The Stray Birds is the primary focus for all three members. It was a real pleasure to have an opportunity to chat with the band and preview a few of the tracks from the new record before they head out on a national tour that will carry them through the rest of the summer and well into the fall. Mychal Cohen is the songwriter and front man for the Seattle based indie rock band, Campfire Ok. Mychal toured the country this summer as the support act during an acoustic tour by the rock band, Anberlin. I caught up with Mychal when the tour came through Lancaster to make a stop at the Chameleon Club. Along with writing, recording, and touring as a rock musician, Mychal also writes music for film and television. He explained how he got into the business by literally starting a conversation with the universe, and the universe (well, a friend on Facebook) delivered. Scott Balsai, a fingerstyle acoustic guitarist from Pocatello, Idaho, visits Jason Mundok at the Wood Stove House for a chat about his musical journey and latest album, Reflections of Maple and Mahogany: A Musical Diary.

Broken Fences is an indie-folk duo from Pittsburgh, PA made up of songwriters Morgan Erina and Guy Russo. Their signature harmonies were beautifully captured on their self-titled debut album that was released on June 1, 2012. The album was produced by Dave Hidek from Treelady Studios in Pittsburgh. We met Broken Fences when they visited Lancaster back in April 2011 for the Launch Music Conference and joined us on episode #30 of Around the Wood Stove. Guy and Morgan recently returned to Lancaster to perform an intimate listening room show in the Community Room on the first block of North Prince St., above Prince Street Cafe. Mark DeRose and an all-star cast of Central Pennsylvania songwriters came together for a Mother’s Day Tribute concert presented by our friends at Mosaic. The concert was also a benefit for a Lancaster area team called "That's What Friends Are For" who will be participating in the Susan G Komen Three-Day, a 60 mile walk for breast cancer awareness and research. Mark’s dear friend April Good began her fight with breast cancer a couple years ago. April, her  husband Keith, and sister-in-law Jill Good Miller have joined forces to put together a team of 16 who will be training and raising money for the walk all summer long.
